What If My Rates Are Not What I Expected?
Overview
The rates displayed by OzLINK are calculated by UPS and sent via the internet from UPS to your OzLINK workstation. Each time you request a rate, OzLINK communicates directly with a UPS data center. Their computer system then sends OzLINK the details about the rate based on your UPS account information. OzLINK does not store, buffer, cache, calculate or lookup any rate tables on your local workstation.
Step 1: Confirm the Live Rate
When investigating an unexpected rate, it is helpful to find out what your live rate is directly from UPS. To check this, log in to
myups.com and run the same transaction that you tried in OzLINK. The rate from
myups.com is based on your active UPS contract and account. If you find that the rate provided on
myups.com is not what you expect, then you should contact your UPS Representative to discuss the reason for the rate provided. If you find that the rate on
myups.com is different from the rate in OzLINK, please continue below.
Step 2: Investigate Discrepancies
Some of the common causes of rate discrepancies are listed below. Please step through each one to help find the cause of the variance.
1. If your negotiated rates are not yet enabled in OzLINK, you can activate them to see the rates from your contract. To do this, go to the
Setup menu, then select
Accounts, and click on the
Edit button. Check the '
Enable Negotiated Rates' checkbox. For more details, see:

2. If you are no longer seeing your negotiated rates even though you've activated them in the past, try unchecking and then re-checking the 'Enable Negotiated Rates' checkbox. Click on the Setup menu, then select Accounts, and click on the Edit button to find the checkbox.
3. If you receive a monthly volume discount based on the number of packages you ship, this may cause a difference between the OzLINK tool and your monthly invoice. This is because OzLINK doesn't know the number of packages you will ship that month.
4. If your rate request includes multiple packages, be sure that each package has the appropriate accessorial services selected. When you click the '+' button to add additional packages, the new package will have the same services as the previous package. For instance, if you enter a declared value amount of $500 for the first package, then click the '+' button to add two more packages, the declared value amount will also be applied to the new packages, creating a declared value amount of $1500 for the whole shipment. Be sure to adjust this value (along with other services) for each package in the shipment. For more details, refer to the multiple package section of the

1. The 'address validation' option is selected by default on
myups.com but is not available through OzLINK. Be sure to remove the option to get an accurate rate from
myups.com.
2. Some accessorial services such as Declared Value, Signature Service, Additional Handling, COD or Residential may be activated in one system but not in the other. Be sure to select the same options in each system performing the rate operation.
3. Dimensional values can have a large impact on your rate. Be sure to enter the same dimensions in both systems.
4. If an adjustment was recently made to your UPS rate contract, the new rates will not be active or available to the OzLINK tool until the following Monday.
5. The rates displayed in the OzLINK tool do include Fuel Surcharges and any applicable Delivery Area Surcharges. Be sure to take these charges into account when comparing the rate to a different system.
1. A Handling Charge may be configured in the OzLINK tool under the Setup -> Rating section but may not have been configured in WorldShip. You can either remove the handling charge from OzLINK or add it to your WorldShip configuration.
2. UPS WorldShip uses a downloaded rate file, while OzLINK communicates with UPS in real time. WorldShip's rate file could be out of date due to a new or changed contract. This could cause a discrepancy between the two tools until WorldShip is updated with the most recent rates.
3. It is possible to activate Negotiated rates within the OzLINK tool. If this is done, you should also work with your UPS representative to download and activate Negotiated rates for your WorldShip system so you are comparing rates from the same contract.
4. If your negotiated rates are activated in both OzLINK and WorldShip, check to make sure you're displaying the same rate in each tool. To change the rate displayed in OzLINK, see

Shipper Editor, available in the

Email the most recent transaction
Sometimes your UPS representative may ask you to send them the most recent rate request you have completed. This can help in troubleshooting any issues. To do this, click on the Help menu and then select Email XML. Complete the form that appears with their name and email address, and choose the 'rating' checkbox. This will send the supporting XML transaction files of the last run transaction to your UPS representative's email address.
